I like the idea. I don't know if it's something to implement yet. I have some concerns about the general connectivity of our population (we have SO few with shared email addresses); the quality of search that our system currently provides; the quality of search that the Sirsi solution will provide; etc. Then, I also wonder about how much help it will be to the staff (as well as public); the amount of time it will take for IT to manage; the hidden costs for the airtime; etc. While some of our more techy people would love this (I know that I like the concept a lot); I don't know if we have the numbers and the support to move this forward right now. It might be the right thing in 2010 or 2011..and hopefully not too far behind the curve.
Then again, if we are using Google to search the catalog, perhaps their pocketPC settings might be our easy answer. --er
